Lesson 8 Clipper Work Part 2
I do all my clipper work first. Then the scissor finishing work after all clipper work is done. Here is the order and steps I follow to avoid clipping mistakes.
1. All body and leg clipping first…for instance, if I use an "A" comb over a #30 blade...I complete all the clipping with that blade.
2. Next, I may use a larger snap-on comb on the legs, head, cheeks, and muzzle. So I will switch to that blade or comb and complete all clipping work in those areas.
Hint...you can use either a 10, 15, or 30 blades under your guard combs
3. Sanitary trimming: I use a # 10 under my combs, so for sanitary work, I simply remove the guard comb from the #10 blade. Switch the blade for a cooled #10 blade or… use Andis Cool care to cool and clean my blade. With a #10 blade only, I clip in the corner of my eyes (45-degree angle), sanitary area, armpits, and ear lobes.
4. The last step of clipper work is to shave the pads of the feet...I use a detachable #30 blade for this step with my Wahl km 10 clipper or my 4 in 1 Kenchii flash cordless clipper. If you have never shaved in the paw pads, you may not be certain how much pressure to apply…I suggest using a 15 blade until you are more comfortable shaving the pads of your dog's feet before attempting to trim this area with a #30 blade.
Pay close attention to my other hand and the way I stretch the skin to ensure a smooth clip with my clipper blade.
Also, watch how I will often pick up the opposite foot or shake the foot to distract the dog's attention to the fact that I am trimming the opposite foot.
