This is a course designed for the beginner groomer and does not provide an "all dog breed" certification for professionals.

I am Amy Leigh, certified, professional pet groomer since 2003 and it is absolutely my pleasure to share the secrets of the pet grooming industry with you, so you can provide the same level of care for your pets at home as I offer my client pets here in my grooming salon.

Certain dog breeds require their coat to be clipped in order to maintain a comfortable existence. Your pet must be one of them if you are here today.

That means you are a pet owner who is seeking valuable knowledge in order to groom your dog at home. So what is the perfect course for you and your pet?

This course does not certify you as a professional dog groomer

You can purchase an online dog grooming certification course and spend thousands of dollars to learn an abundance of information when all you really want to gain is the ability to safely and effectively give your dog a haircut using proper tools, products, and dog grooming methods that will produce winning results.

This course was crafted for you! Each lesson is carefully bundled to transform your understanding of basic pet grooming and give you the confidence needed to successfully groom your dog yourself.

The “comfort trim” is the easiest pet trim to perform because it does not follow a specific breed standard outline. That means you will not have to learn multiple dog grooming patterns, trims, and grooming methods in order to execute the Comfort trim.

Course Introduction

This course was crafted for you! Each lesson is carefully bundled to transform your understanding of basic pet grooming and give you the confidence needed to successfully groom your dog yourself.
The “comfort trim” is the easiest pet trim to perform because it does not follow a specific breed standard outline. That means you will not have to learn multiple dog grooming patterns, trims, and grooming methods in order to execute the Comfort trim.
Instead, you will become a master of one trim that can be applied to any dog breed that requires a haircut. Including any purebred dog.
That’s right! You do not have to follow an expert-level dog grooming recipe to accomplish this pet trim…The comfort trim.
And that is what makes this course so unique. You will begin your training at the beginning stage.
On that platform, you can build your skills from a place that positions you to move forward as your knowledge and dexterity improve.
Let’s take a peek into the lesson blueprint and give you an idea of what this course, “comfort trim for your furry friend” has to offer you and your pet.
The Idea is to always perform the steps of a groom in the same order no matter what breed or coat type you are grooming. If you are grooming a dog that does not require a step, then you skip that step and move to the next step in your procedures for grooming. This eliminates the possibility of you forgetting or skipping a step.

Lesson 3 Assessing the groom

Consider this an evaluation. What is the physical condition of the skin and coat? What do we have to do to the skin and coat to prepare them for trimming?

A perfectly prepared coat is a prerequisite to a successful groom. Most people overlook the importance of the bath, brushing, and drying process, wanting to jump straight into the haircut. That is why most people fail when giving their dog a trim.

Lesson 8 Clipper Work Part 1

I do all my clipper work first. Then the scissor finishing work after all clipper work is done. Here is the order and steps I follow to avoid clipping mistakes.

Lesson 8 Clipper Work Part 2

I do all my clipper work first. Then the scissor finishing work after all clipper work is done. Here is the order and steps I follow to avoid clipping mistakes.
1. All body and leg clipping first…for instance, if I use an "A" comb over a #30 blade...I complete all the clipping with that blade.

2. Next, I may use a larger snap-on comb on the legs, head, cheeks, and muzzle. So I will switch to that blade or comb and complete all clipping work in those areas.
Hint...you can use either a 10, 15, or 30 blades under your guard combs

3. Sanitary trimming: I use a # 10 under my combs, so for sanitary work, I simply remove the guard comb from the #10 blade. Switch the blade for a cooled #10  blade or… use Andis Cool care to cool and clean my blade. With a #10 blade only, I clip in the corner of my eyes (45-degree angle), sanitary area, armpits, and ear lobes.

4. The last step of clipper work is to shave the pads of the feet...I use a detachable #30 blade for this step with my Wahl km 10 clipper or my 4 in 1 Kenchii flash cordless clipper. If you have never shaved in the paw pads, you may not be certain how much pressure to apply…I suggest using a 15 blade until you are more comfortable shaving the pads of your dog's feet before attempting to trim this area with a #30 blade.

Pay close attention to my other hand and the way I stretch the skin to ensure a smooth clip with my clipper blade.

Also, watch how I will often pick up the opposite foot or shake the foot to distract the dog's attention to the fact that I am trimming the opposite foot.

Lesson 9 Scissor/Finish Work Part 1

This is the final step of the comfort trim. Remember, you will improve with every grooming session. Your speed will pick up and don’t be ashamed to break the groom into two days.

In doing so…we will trim the face, head, and ears as well as trim around the legs and feet to polish our work and produce a professionally looking groom.
